Participants will explore the complex conservation history of the critically endangered California condor (Gymnogyps californianus) from a number of perspectives, and will learn how researchers at the San Diego Zoo Global Institute for Conservation Research determine gender in this sexually monomorphic species using two techniques. The successful captive breeding efforts that we have achieved are due in large part to having this key piece of information and have enabled us to bring this majestic bird back from the brink of extinction.
