Description

Physical activity is as important for the growth and development of young children as the establishment of healthy eating habits is. Successful introduction of movement to children requires well-organized, fun, inclusive activities that have clear instructions and planned transitions. Children enjoy outdoor physical activities that enable everyone to participate. In this course you will learn how to: Describe the benefits of physical activity; Identify goals for physical activity movement for young children; Determine essential elements for successful leadership of physical activities with young children; Understand the importance of role modeling physical activities with young children; and plan at least one new activity to implement with children in the child care setting. This course is designed to be part of a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential™ curriculum. It covers CDA Subject Area 2: Steps to Advance Children's Physical and Intellectual Development. This course can also be taken as a stand-alone learning event, or as part of a broader early childhood education curriculum.
