John Adams returns to France following the conclusion of the Revolutionary War to draft the treaty ending the war. His wife Abigail meets him there, as does Thomas Jefferson. (Get it? That's why the episode is called "Reunion".) He is then selected as American Ambassador to England and meets King George III face-to-face.
