Description

Sometimes in parenting programs, caregivers have their own history of trauma that can influence how they parent and how they relate to their children. Understanding this history and how it comes into play in a parenting program is of vital importance to providers working with families. It allows us as providers to be sensitive to the caregiver and to approach the parenting strategies from a trauma-focused perspective. This course explains how to assess for whether caregivers have experienced trauma, how that trauma might show up in parenting, and how parenting providers can sensitively account for this trauma history to still produce successful outcomes for their parenting programs.
