This training course is designed to equip prehospital providers with the knowledge and confidence to provide optimal care for patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs). With over 20,000 patients receiving LVADs as a long-term treatment for advanced heart failure since 2006, and with an expected increase in these numbers, it's critical for EMS providers to keep pace with the latest developments in LVAD technology. Delves into the history of Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs), which have been in use since 1966. In recent years, significant improvements in VAD design and safety have resulted in these devices becoming more commonly implanted. Through this course, you will gain a clear understanding of the basic components of a VAD, be able to recognize a VAD patient in the community, assess their hemodynamic status, and provide appropriate care in the prehospital setting.
