Dr. Christopher Galton will discuss transport ventilator strategies for the COVID patient through a combination of lecture and case based review to assist transport paramedics with the interfacility management of COVID patients. Throughout the pandemic, Dr. Galton has served as both an intensivist in the Highly Infectious Disease ICU at the University of Rochester Medical Center as well as the Medical Director for Mercy Flight Central caring for numerous COVID patients.
Objectives:
Review the pathophysiology of SARS CoV2 / COVID 19
Discuss Pearls and Pitfalls of ventilator management of the COVID 19 patient
Discuss the appropriateness of ventilator setting parameters such as high PEEP and allowable airway pressures
Highlight the profound safety implications of prone ventilation and transport
