2024 Democratic National Convention: Medical Lessons Learned for Political Mass Gathering Events 

 

The 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) was held in Chicago, IL, amidst a complex national and international geopolitical environment. In this session, we will examine the medical preparedness for the DNC which include the role of public-private partnerships, EMS, hospital preparedness, patient tracking, and mass casualty incident preparedness and response. This session is geared and will equip future EMS and healthcare leaders with the medical planning knowledge and lessons learned for future safe political mass gathering events in today’s ever changing threat environment.

Dr. Nicholas Cozzi is an MBA-trained ABEM-board certified Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services Physician. Dr. Cozzi serves as the EMS & Disaster Medicine Medical Director and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Cozzi also serves as the Medical Consultant to the Chicago Fire Department Technical Rescue Medic Program and Online-Medical Control (OLMC) Physician for the Fire Department of New York City. Dr. Cozzi served as the Medical Director of the United Center’s Medical Aid Stations during the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Dr. Cozzi has spoken nationally and internationally on EMS and pre-hospital topics and has been featured on Good Morning America, WGN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox News affiliates providing medical expertise in a variety of topics.
