In partnership with Kids Hope Alliance and Voices Institute, The Partnership for Child Health - Jacksonville System of Care presents: Know Thyself: Cultivating Cultural Humility.
Our nation is grappling with a “pandemic within a pandemic,” coronavirus (COVID-19) and racism. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has amplified existing racial and ethnic disparities in vulnerable and marginalized populations, and across systems. Along with disparate outcomes for people of color due to COVID-19, there is heightened racial unrest as a result of the horrific deaths of Armaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and many others. It is critical that communities acknowledge and confront racial trauma and examine biases in brave and gracious spaces through the lens of cultural humility. Participants will explore their racial socialization process, implicit/explicit bias, and strategies to mitigate bias and promote anti-racism.
Participants will be able to:
1) Describe their racial socialization process;
2) Define cultural humility and strategies to actualize the three elements of cultural humility;
3) Distinguish between implicit and explicit bias; and
4) List strategies to manage bias and identify personal steps for change in moving towards anti-racism.
This course will be broadcasted and recorded via Zoom Meeting and uses PowerPoint presentation, lecture, and discussions for instruction. You must register for this course by logging into your account before attending the Zoom Meeting.
