Description:

Newborn Touch Essentials training provides parents and caregivers with the core knowledge, essential skills and care practices needed to help infants cry less, sleep more and flourish as they grow. Participants will learn how relationships between babies and adults form the essential foundation for emotional wellbeing in parallel with the development of healthy brain architecture — the cognitive infrastructure that supports all future learning.

Newborn Touch Essentials training will provide all infant caregivers with the essential skills to observe, understand and respond to infant behaviors. These skills have the added ability to diminish or buffer the effects of toxic stress for babies in ways that will build and strengthen their resilience from the start. This is a hands-on learning experience, where dolls are used for demonstration and for participants to practice practical skills that will become part of doing daily tasks and enrich and enliven the caregiving experience.

Skills taught include

  • holding and positioning,
  • techniques for soothing a crying baby,
  • methods for gentle touch and massage
  • appropriate swaddling methods (when and where to use it)
